Reflection 2

There once was a time I believed that technology was resorted to Powerpoint presentations and showing films in classrooms. That was at best what I believed it to be. Undoubtedly, I learned to find out that that was not true at all. The amount of benefits technology can produce inside of a classroom can be endless if put to the right use. The things we are able to access online at the push of a button are quite amazing. Thus, with the use of technology becoming more and more frequent amongst our youths in this day and age, it is important and vital that we learn to incorporate it into our future classrooms! I myself was able to create 3D structures, storyboards, lessons, spreadsheets, and work collaboratively with other classmates all with the use of technology. This practice and engagement with the tool allowed me to create authentic ideas and thoughts which in the end helped me to fully understand the material. Thus, I can now advocate for the many advantages and learning opportunities that technology use in the classroom can provide. This is something we must do in order to keep up with the times and be able to better reach out to our students of the future. “Current students are more knowledgable than their teachers when it comes to ICT (Information and Communication Technology). Given this phenomenon, Prensky (2001) coined the terms, ‘digital natives’ to describe students and ‘digital immigrants’ to describe teachers… These students have been raised in a digital environment that has shaped how they think, behave, and act. Therefore, the nature of technology usage in and out of schools and the acceptance of technology between digital natives and immigrants are presumably radically different.”
